In 2001 John and Rose Roil pioneered prefabricated houses and commercial buildings in Hawke’s Bay, including small police stations from their workshop under Cottages NZ Ltd. with one simple goal, to create spaces people could trust to last. There were no grand plans back then, just a deep belief in doing things properly, treating people fairly, and always standing behind their work.
OVER 20 YEARS OF CARE, CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND COMMITMENT
From those first cottages grew HB Homes & Commercial, still family-owned, still rooted in Hawke’s Bay, now delivering meticulously crafted homes and commercial spaces to clients across New Zealand. Since 2015, their son Mark, a qualified builder, leads the business with the same values his parents built it on honesty, care, craftsmanship, and commitment. Mark has a team of experienced builders as well as many preferred sub-contractors that all work at the facility in the industrial area of Irongate, Hastings.
We have always believed trust is earned through clear communication, attention to detail, and standing beside our clients from the first conversation to well beyond handover day. Our purpose-built Hastings facility allows us to construct buildings off-site, under controlled conditions, ensuring consistency, reducing delays, minimising waste, and producing a higher quality finished product.
